Electric Propulsion Related Components

Electric and hybrid vehicles use several specialty components. UQM offers a range of converters, inverters and auxiliary controllers to work seamlessly with UQM propulsion systems. In addition to these key components for electric and hybrid vehicles, we also manufacture a compressor motor used in a fuel cell powertrain.

All UQM components are engineered and manufactured in the company’s 130,000 square foot facility in Longmont, Colorado.

DC-DC Converters

DC-DC converters are used to convert powertrain voltage to chassis electrical voltage. UQM offers two converters to reduce 400 VDC to 12 VDC; one with a 1.6 kW output and another with 2.2 kW output. Our 1.6 kW output converter is also available for 24 VDC systems commonly used in military and some commercial vehicle applications.

Key features of the UQM DC-DC converters are high-efficiency operation, liquid cooling, over-temperature shutdown, automatic current limiting, low standby power and output over-voltage protection.

DC24-60L, featuring 1.6 kW output, Converts 400 VDC to 24 VDC
DC12-160L, featuring 2.2 kW output, Converts 400 VDC to 12 VDC

DC-AC Inverter

The UQM DC-AC 5 kW inverter converts 400 VDC to 60 Hz 120 VAC. The inverter is liquid cooled and features an internal soft start. It can accept an input voltage of 250 to 425 VDC.

Other features include under-voltage protection, automatic current limiting, the ability to update the firmware, high inrush load capability, brown-out protection and reverse polarity protection.

Other Components

Auxiliary Controller

UQM designs and manufactures electric motor/generator controllers. In addition to the controllers used in its line of PowerPhase electric propulsion systems, the following 3-phase motor/generator controllers are also available.

Models Available:

DD40-100L, featuring 25 kW output, 400 VDC input voltage, 100A peak current rating
DD80-50L, featuring 25 kW output, 800 VDC input voltage, 50A peak current rating

Compressor Motor

The UQM fuel cell compressor motor is ideal for auxiliary applications. The electric motor utilizes UQM technology to deliver high efficiency in a small package. Key features include hall element feedback and motor-temperature sensing.
